Sarah & Korey began their wedding weekend with a welcome dinner at Sarah's grandparents NJ home. This place had great meaning to the family as it was designed & built by Sarah's grandfather & impeccably decorated by her grandmother. As a potential hurricane loomed over the evening guests took shelter from the rain on the tented porch. The weather did not dampen the spirits of the nearly weds, laughing & enjoying the company of so many friends and family, some of who travelled far to be there that evening. They dined all together, with many giving lovely toasts to the couple.
happy couple. Dessert was a favorite of Sarah's that her grandmother always did for them - frozen Entenmann's. Something that stood out about Sarah & Korey was their desire to include so many meaningful details - e.g. Sarah's sister embroidery on the bread basket linens, Sarah hand writing all of the name cards, the sister's coming together to arrange all the flowers for both the welcome party & the wedding day. This was only a taste of what was to come on Saturday for Sarah & Korey's wedding. The evening truly felt like an effortless dinner party with their closest friends & family, doing what they loved & enjoying every second of it.
Sarah & Korey started their wedding day morning each getting ready a few blocks apart. Sarah with her closest family & friends and Korey with his. When all were ready - Korey headed over to the apartment Sarah was getting ready at for the first look. He waited at the bottom of the steps & patiently awaited his
bride. Shortly after the first look the pair headed over to Hoek Pizza the stage of their reception later on that evening. They met with friends and family & partook in the signing of the Ketubah : A contract but more importantly a symbol of love and commitment for Jewish couples. They wrote & designed their own Ketubah & exclaimed this was to be hung in their house as a daily reminder of their commitment & love. After the signing, they spent the remaining time before their ceremony enjoying the relaxed company of those around them.
The ceremony took place in the park adjacent to the restaurant. In the park stood a Chuppah : a canopy beneath which Jewish marriage ceremonies are performed, in the shade of a large tree, behind it was the Statue of Liberty
Statue of Liberty standing in New York Harbor. Further in the distance, large cranes could be seen from the park which Sarah informed me were the same cranes that could be seen from her grandparents house which we had celebrated at the evening prior. An absolutely picture perfect stage for their wedding ceremony. Family & friends started to gather in the park to witness Sarah & Korey profess their love & commitment to one another. The wedding party lined up and the ceremony began. Korey & his parents, followed by
Korey & his parents, followed by Sarah & her parents. They processed down where family members were holding the Chuppah poles representing the community that will support you in years to come. It was a beautiful ceremony, they shared blessed wine from a glass from their favorite brewery, delivered their own written vows & with that ended with the couple stepping on the glass as they exit the ceremony. A ceremony filled with tradition in such a unique setting seemed a perfect fit for Sarah & Korey.
After the ceremony the crowd walked around the corner to Hoek where they were met with a robust antipasto table & divine drinks. Cocktail hour was full of old friends chatting & new ones connecting. The
The evening was just beginning. Outside on the patio, tables were adorned with bud vases & ikebana arrangements locally grown florals magnificently put together by the bride & her sisters. The table markers were the street names of important places in both Sarah & Korey's life. The name cards were hand writtin by Sarah along with all of the stationery at their wedding. On their sweetheart table laid a beautiful & detailed embroidered runner from Sarah's sisters business. The couple had a unique way of meeting which sparked the reasoning behind Sarah's twin sister creating small vials of a custom wedding scent as a favor for all the guests
small vials of a custom wedding scent as a favor for all the guests. Dinner was served family style, with endless pizza & other side dishes. Thoughtful speeches were given under the moonlight of the Brooklyn city street. After dinner the couple called all their guests inside & serenaded them with an original song, Korey on the acoustic guitar & both of them singing. They moved into their first dance & then it was time for the best Hora dance ever. The wedding singer was an amazing & eclectic man who brought nothing but energy & joy into the room. He never allowed the dance floor empty, singing fan favorites one after another. A beautiful cake was brought out with handwriting that gave us all a laugh - "Just Married S+K." Sarah & Korey rode off into the evening on their tandem bike strung with cans - all the way (a few blocks) down to the cutest dive bar, where those who could, continued to celebrated them into the late hours of the night. The attention to detail this couple had was unmatched, they truly made their wedding a reflection of themselves & their story, and because of that it will be a weekend I feel so grateful to have been apart of.
